Why can't people silence electronic devices?

If you have your laptop in a public place, and for some reason you are incapable of doing anything at all without making it get cross at you, put it on mute. No one wants to hear the angry Mac sound over and over. Also, there's a button on the keyboard for that.

Basically, if it makes noise that's not absolutely necessary, you should hit the mute button. Because if you don't, you're a jackass.

You are the most wonderfully grouchy person ever. Let's get married.

There was a girl in Border's once who was loudly playing the Dave Matthews Band on her laptop. Loud, as in, all the way up. I approached her and asked her politely to please turn it down. Her reply was to yell at me that it wasn't a library. I went and then equally politely asked the manager (who was a good friend of mine) to request the same thing. He did, and she complied.

The irony? One of the books on her table was a book of modern etiquette.
