Why is "Carol of the Bells" a thing?

Is there anyone who enjoys its inexpressible tedium?  Besides, apparently, the members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra?

You, sir, are a liar.

The Carol of the Bells was based on an early 20th-century Ukrainian song, Schedryk, which tells a brief story of a swallow singing to a farmer about the wealth he has, and that which his farm will yield in the new year. Ukrainians usually sing it for the New Year of the Julian calendar.

The song itself was derived from pre-Christian Ukrainian chants that were supposed bring wealth and bounty in the coming year. The themes in the lyrics of Schedryk--mainly fertility and bountiful harvests--probably would have made more sense on the old pagan Ukrainian new year, which occurred in April.

дуже цікаве!
